Raised in a household of discerning taste and technical skill, she apprenticed with her father, a master craftsman in antique restoration. As a result of her unique background and education, she has developed a signature ability to create truly one-of-a-kind designs. Barnard works out of her Los Angeles-based studio and showroom, undertaking a broad range of projects. Recent commissions include a Mid-Century modern residence in the Pacific Palisades, a Traditional Cape Cod home in Palos Verdes Estates and a Montecito Estate with a “Modern- Prairie” aesthetic.

Barnard's design practice is the culmination of education and interests in art, architecture, textiles and fashion. She has passed the (CCRE) CA Codes & Regulations exam with high marks and has achieved recognition as an (ACKD) Associate Certified Kitchen Designer.

Sarah Barnard's work has been featured in local and national publications, and has placed prominently in several design competitions. Earlier this year, she was a top-three finalist in the Selamat Designs 1st Annual “Create a Classic” Design Challenge for her Tuvalu occasional chair, earning her a commission to create a line of furniture for the company. She also designed a chair using salvaged automobile parts that won “Best in Show” at New York’s Environdesign sustainable design conference.
