The artistic expressions of Sybil J.B. van Dijs infuse the gentle grace of the east with the vivacious vision of the west as she transforms her traditional Florida-based educational training into charismatic California designs. Artistically trained in interior design and dance, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Florida State University. Sybil’s designs reflect elements from both disciplines—the functional practicality imperative for successful design pieces and the finely detailed fluidity associated with the elegance of dance. The results are breath taking, captivating, and original designs.
The founder of Belmont-based SJvD Design, Sybil’s recent works include a 58,000 square foot Private Building Suites in Beverly Hills, over 40 Luxury Suites and guestrooms at the Hotel Bel-Air, customized pool and terrace dining furniture for the Hotel Bel-Air, a 22,000 square foot Private Recreation Venue in West Los Angeles, and a 56,000 square foot Private Residence in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Prior to forming SJvD Design in 1998, Sybil was the Project Manager for Makati-Manila-based Excell Contractors and Developers Inc, Project Interior Designer for Los Angeles-based Rochlin Baran & Balbona, Inc., Project Designer for Irvine-based Raygal Design Associates, and Project Designer for St. Petersburg, Florida-based Euthenics, Inc.
In addition to a busy interior design practice, Sybil partakes actively in the design community as both a mentor and a leader. The current Past President of the American Society of Interior Designers, Los Angeles Chapter, Sybil is NCIDQ certified #11553 and a Certified Interior Designer in the state of California CID #2230. Sybil takes her role as a design leader seriously and as such is dedicated to securing the future for our youth, through the promotion of holistic educational goals, and the incorporation of color and sustainability, as a means to positively influence the built environment for old and young alike to experience. It is her contention that Interior Designers leave powerful lasting impressions that have the magic to help shape the future for all by creating balance and harmony in living environments; including the creation of proactive legislative efforts to define the role of interior designer as a promoter of life, safety and welfare in the interior built environment—a contention that is reflected in her work as both a prominent international designer and as a local design community leader.
