Candidate Statement
My goals are (1) to increase the member satisfaction with ASID LA and (2) to expand the participation of the membership in chapter activities.

Action to meet the goal of increasing member satisfaction will include being available at chapter events in order to connect with members and welcome new faces. To ask questions of members, listen to their thoughts about the chapter and their ideas of what they want from the chapter in the future…and pass the information on to the chapter board.

Action to increase member satisfaction and participation is to facilitate people feeling welcome at chapter events and appreciated for showing up.

Action to expand member participation is to help members recognize their individual and unique strengths that make them valuable team players in chapter projects.

Action to expand member participation is to show members how participation will benefit them.

Bio
Nicholas Hertneck, ASID, a native of Southern California, has been the Design Principal at Piper Hertneck Design for more than twenty years and has worked on a variety of world-class projects throughout the United States. After graduation from Cal State Fullerton (Fullerton is Nick’s home town), Nicholas has had the benefit of several outstanding mentors indluding John Piper, ASID, Dorian Hunter, FASID, and James Bradley Hill, AIA. He has worked with Robert Altivers, AIA, A.C. Martin Associates, and Philip Johnson, FAIA.

While Nicholas resides in Rancho Mirage, CA, his projects have taken him to New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Ohio, Texas, the British Virgin Islands, British Columbia and Indonesia. Projects include luxurious pied-à-terres in New York City; Scott’s MiracleGro headquarters in Marysville, OH, a residential compound on the island of Virgin Gorda at Little Dix, BVI; the smith and Hawken store at Strawberry Village in Marin, CA; model homes in Calabasas, CA for Urban West Communities; sales offices for the Trunp International Hotel and Condo at Columbus Circle, NYC; a corporate jet; a private yacht; hotel lobbies for the Bakrie Brothers in Surabaya; a corporate retreat on 17 Miller Drive in Pebble Beach; and another one at Lake Tahoe in Incline Village, NV. Variety in project type, locations and clients seems to be the constant in Nicholas’s career.

While designing interiors has been Nicholas’s main business, he is increasingly involved in landscape design, construction management and the management of his drapery workroom. In the future he hopes to have his own cabinet shop as well.
